Raymond Muetzel
Central Teacher, Coach & Athletic Equipment Manager
Mr. Muetzel graduated from Mankato H.S. in 1954 where he earned varsity letters in
football, basketball and track. He graduated from Mankato State University in 1958
with a degree in Physics and Mathematics. He received a National Science
Foundation grant from the Univ. of Minnesota and finished his Master Degree at the
Univ. of Saint Thomas.
In 1958, he was honored and humbled to be offered a teaching position at St. Paul
Central H.S. which at the time, was one of the most prestigious high schools in the
Midwest. In 1963 he accepted the positions of Central’s Athletic Equipment Manager
and Boys’ Golf Coach. A few years later Girls’ Golf was added and he continued both
positions for the next 33 years.
Through the years, Mr. Muetzel was very fortunate to work with many talented
individuals, both colleagues and students. He felt working with the young people who
participated in golf was indeed a rewarding experience. Although some of the
participants had never played the sport, through their dedication and hard work, both
the girls and boys teams experienced successes, winning four City Conference
Championships. Numerous players participated in the state golf tournament. As
Equipment Manager, he had the opportunity to properly equip all of Central’s coaches
and athletes before a game was played. In completing his thirty eight years of service
to Central in 1996, Mr. Muetzel felt privileged to have had the opportunity to work at a
school with many traditions and an outstanding history.

Steve Winfield
Central Student Athlete
1965-1968
A 1968 graduate, Steve played three years on the varsity baseball team and was co-captain his senior year. He was also a prolific base stealer, never being thrown out during his high school career. He was a member of Central’s choir and co-chairman of Central’s first student diversity action club. Steve and his brother David led the Attucks-Brooks Post 606 American Legion team to two consecutive Minnesota state tournament titles in 1967 and 1968.
A Univ. of Minnesota graduate, Steve played one year of college baseball, then two years of professional softball for the Minn. Norseman. Steve continued to play Class A amateur baseball for 35 years and was inducted into Mancini’s All –Time Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004. Steve has coached at Oxford (Jimmy Lee) playground, working with both girls and boys in baseball, softball, football, and basketball. Steve is considered one of the top youth baseball clinicians in the Midwest. He has been a lead instructor in the Minnesota Twins RBI program and also a head coach for their 18 and under All-Star teams.
Steve presently works with youth and families through the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department. He continues to serve as the Chairman of the David M. Winfield Student Athletic Scholarship Awards Program and is a highly respected Minnesota State High School League basketball official. Steve has been chosen to officiate at over 20 Minnesota State High School League Tournaments.

Lori (Tushaus) Keute
Central Student Athlete
1981-1984
A 1984 graduate, Lori played three years of volleyball, basketball, and softball. She was selected team captain for those sports her senior year. Lori also participated two years in Central’s marching and pep bands. She was voted by her peers in Central's yearbook poll as "Most Athletic" and received the 1984 Central H.S. "C" Club's Outstanding Student Athlete Award.
Lori is a St. Catherine College graduate, with a B.A. degree in Elementary Education. She also earned a coaching certificate. While there, Lori played four years of varsity volleyball as a starting outside hitter and two years of varsity softball as a starting pitcher.
Lori has been an ECFE teacher for three years in Eveleth / Gilbert, Minnesota and a kindergarten teacher in Iowa and Superior, Wisconsin. She has coached volleyball for more than 15 years at all levels including club teams, elementary, high school and college. She was the head volleyball coach in Virginia, MN (1993-95).
Presently, Lori works as a substitute teacher in Superior, WI. and is in her third season as Assistant Volleyball Coach at the Univ. of Wisconsin-Superior. Lori has been married for 19 years and is the proud mother of three daughters that are volleyball players.

Jerry Sandin
Central Student Athlete
1945-1949
A 1949 Graduate, Jerry lettered four years in hockey and two years in baseball. Jerry captained the 1949 hockey team when Central upset a strong Johnson High School hockey team 2-1. In baseball, Jerry played on Central’s 1948 baseball team that won the Carleton College Class “L” championship. Jerry was named one of the top 15 CHS Athletes his senior year.
After leaving Central, Jerry attended Hamline University, played two years of Triple “A” amateur baseball and in 1950 was named to the Triple “A” All-Star team.
In 1950, he enlisted into the U.S. Navy. While stationed in Key West, Fla., Jerry was named to a Navy All-Star baseball team. After serving four years, with one year in Korean waters, Jerry was discharged and started college at the University of Minnesota in general engineering. While still in school, Jerry went to work for a consulting-engineering firm in St. Paul and in 1958 went to work for an architect-engineering firm. In 1961, Jerry went to work for a large mechanical contracting firm and worked there as an engineer-estimator, vice president and in 1983, was made a partner before retiring in 1991.
In 1955, Jerry began officiating high school football and enjoyed working at that level for ten years. He was president of the CHS “C” Club for two years, in 1970 and in 1990. He played 26 years of tournament handball and was master state consolation singles champion in 1976 and with his partner, was super master state doubles champion in 1991.

Art Downey
Central Student Athlete
1947-1950
A 1950 graduate, Art was a member of three city championship swimming teams and was captain his senior year. At the city championships meet his junior year he won the 200-yard freestyle and was second in the 100-yard freestyle. As a senior, he was undefeated during dual meets and was the city champion in both events. During the spring season, he was an outfielder on the Minutemen baseball team. Art also competed in swimming at the Univ. of Minnesota.
After graduating from college, Art was hired as a teacher at Edina H.S. and was the school's first Swim Coach. His coaching career has lasted more than 50 years and has touched on 6 decades. To date his record includes over 450 wins, many conference and section championships, 7 state championships, 47 state champions, 21 state records, 49 All-Americans and 45 Academic All-Americans. He coached for the love of coaching and for the opportunity to be a positive influence in young people's lives.
He was a founder and President of the Minnesota Swimming Coaches Association, has been Minnesota’s delegate to the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association since 1980 and received its Outstanding Service and Excellence in Coaching Awards. Governor Tim Pawlenty declared April 22, 2006, as Art Downey Day in Minnesota, and the Art Downey Aquatic Center in Edina is named in his honor. Central is his 5th Hall of Fame induction.

Terrance L. (Terry) Clos Central Student Athlete 1969-1972
A 1967 graduate, John began his high school career at Wilson High School prior to its merge into Central High School. He lettered in Football and Track as a freshman. He went on to earn an additional 8 letters in Football, Basketball, and Track while at Central H. S. John received All-City honors in Football and Basketball as well as District and State rankings in the Discus. He received the "C" Merit Award in 1965 and1966. As a senior he was captain of the Football team and received the Alvin E. Herrmann Outstanding Student/ Athlete Award.
John went on to Hamline University and graduated in 1971 majoring in Sociology and Anthropology. While at Hamline he earned 8 letters in Football and Track. He consistently ranked among the top Discus throwers in the MIAC.
After finishing his degree at Hamline University, John pursued a career in the insurance industry. He coached youth soccer and Little League Baseball over a period of 10 years. During that time he also ran several marathons and triathlons. John retired in May 2006 as a Senior Vice President of the Segal Company, an international consulting and actuarial firm. John has been married to his wife, Cathy, for 34 years. They have 2 grown children and 2 grandchildren. They live in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Earle Maendler
Central Student Athlete
1952-1955
A 1955 graduate, Earle lettered in Football, Basketball, and Baseball. He was a fullback and linebacker for Central's 1954 Conference and Twin City Championship team. Earle led Central's 1955 Conference and Region Runner-up basketball team in scoring and rebounding. He was also a two year starter for the baseball team. Earle received Central's Alvin E. Herrmann Outstanding Student / Athlete Award in 1955.
Earle graduated from Hamline University where he played basketball for four years. In 2004, he completed a successful 44 year career in sales. Earle was selected twice as "Salesman of the Year" for King Koil and was LinTech's "National Salesman of the Year" in 1992.
Earle has served as a volunteer football coach for 29 years and a basketball coach for 42 years in the Harding area and has received numerous volunteer service awards for his efforts.

David Mark Winfield
Central Student Athlete
1966-1969
A 1969 graduate, Dave Winfield is considered to
be one of the finest athletes to come out of the state
of Minnesota. Although Dave is known for his exceptional
baseball talent, he developed into a outstanding basketball
force during his senior year at Central. He received
All-City and All-State awards for both sports.
Dave accepted a scholarship to the University of Minnesota,
where he posted a 19-4 career pitching mark and maintained
a hitting average over 300. Dave was named to the
1973 All-American Baseball Team and was MVP of the
NCAA Baseball Tournament the same year. He also played
a key role for the 1972 Gopher Basketball team that
won the Big Ten Title. Dave majored in Political Science
at the University of Minnesota and received a honorary
doctorate degree from Syracuse University.
Dave was drafted by five professional (2 Major League
Baseball , NBA, ABA, NFL) teams. He went from college
to the majors without a minor-league bus ride in between.
He signed a baseball Gold Glove Winner and finally
in his 14th season, he won a World Series ring. On
September 16, 1993. Dave became the 19th player in
Major League baseball history to reach the 3,000 hit
mark.
In 1977 the Dave Winfield Foundation was established
and has helped over a quarter of a million underprivileged
children nation-wide. Scholarship awards are also
given annually to local student athletes.

Ron Woodbury
Central Student Athlete
1965-1968
A 1968 graduate, Ron Woodbury lettered
in football and baseball. Ron, an All-Conference quarterback,
set several conference records in passing and led his
team to a conference championships in 1967.
Ron received the Alvin Herrmann Outstanding Student/
Athlete Award in 1968. Ron graduated from Hamline University
with a bachelor's degree where he played football for
three years. He has taught at Randolph Heights Elementary
and at Hancock Elementary for the past nineteen years.
Ron coordinates the intramural sports programs and has
been an assistant football and baseball coach at Hamline
since 1975. He also helped with the planning of the
Special Olympics in 1990 and 1991. C Club President
in 1995.

Bill Randall
Central Student Athlete
1931-1934
A 1934 graduate, Bill Randall was a three year letter
winner in football and swimming. During his senior year,
he served as student council president. Bill attended
Carlton College where he participated in their football
and wrestling teams. After graduating, he earned a law
degree from the University of Minnesota, then spent
the next 5 years in military service. Upon returning
to civilian life he joined the St. Paul firm of Smith
and Bloomquist for the next 12 years, followed by a
successful 20 year career appointment as attorney for
Ramsey County.
Mr. Randall has served as a national representative
to the American Ban Association and also President of
the National District County Attorneys' Association.
Randall returned to his private law practice where he
is still active at the age of 79.

Alvin G. Herrman
Central Student Athlete
1899-1902
A 1902 graduate, Alvin Herrmann began
a intimate connection with Central Athletics. He won
positions in the 1901 All-City and All-Twin City Football
teams as a lineman. After two years at the University
of Minnesota, Mr. Herrmann returned to Central as a
physical education instructor and Athletic Director.
He gained a special fame for coaching three football,
two basketball, and one track championship teams. The
St. Paul Dispatch newspaper called Coach Herrmann "the
most successful coach in Minnesota" during his
career.
But personal success was not the chief object of his
work at Central. Mr. Herrmann organized the Central
High School Alumni Athletics Letter Club and instilled
his splendid ideas of school spirit and loyalty.
After some extremely successful years at Central, Mr.
Herrmann entered the insurance field in 1916 as an agent.
He built up the company's business to such a great extent
in two years that in 1918 he was named general agent
for St. Paul and fifteen countries in southern Minnesota.
Coach Herrmann died suddenly in 1924 of a heart attack
at the age of 41.

Marty O'Neill
Central Student Athlete
1926-1929
A 1929 graduate, Marty O'Neill was a three
sport letter winner in football, basketball, and baseball.
As quarterback and captain of the football team Marty
led an undefeated team in 1929 to a Twin Cities championship.
Marty was named to the All-City football and basketball
teams.
Marty played amateur baseball for several seasons and
was the shortstop for the J.J. Kohn team that won the
National Championship in 1937. He also played two years
with the Duluth team of the Northern League.
Following his baseball career, Marty officiated high
school and college football games. During the same time
he used his great wealth of sports knowledge to enter
the broadcasting field where he announced the play for
the St. Paul Saints baseball and hockey teams. Mr. O'Neill
is best known as the king announcer for all-star wrestling
in the Twin Cities area.
Marty served as the master of ceremonies for the annual
C Club Banquet for many years. He died in 1983.

Jack Campbell
Central Student Athlete
1932-1935
A 1935 graduate, Jack Campbell was a small
but durable football, basketball and baseball player
for the Minutemen. Jack, an All-City running back, set
several conference football records, including most
points in a game (26), scoring a championship in 1934.
Jack was also an All-City basketball player. Jack received
Central's Alvin Herrmann Outstanding Student Athletic
Award in 1935.
In 1940, a Hamline University graduate, Jack played
the same three sports and was named to several All-Star
football and basketball teams. He was included into
the Hamline Athletic Hall of Fame in 1969.
Jack started his successful teaching and coaching (basketball,
baseball, golf, and track) career in 1941 for the Athletic
Director and was elected President of the Minnesota
State Athletic Director's Association.
Jack Campbell died in 1987.

Howard Schultz
Central Student Athlete
1937-1940
A 1940 graduate, Howard Schultz was a two sports letter
in basketball and baseball. Howie led the Minutemen
to a City Conference championship in 1939. As a captain
of the team the following year, Howie lead the City
Conference in scoring with an 11.3 points per game average.
Howie displayed the same determination for baseball
in leading Central's team in hitting for two consecutive
seasons. Howie won the Alvin Herrmann Outstanding Student/Athlete
Award in 1940.
Howie attended Hamline University and played the same
two sports. After graduating Howie played professional
baseball for the St. Paul Saints, Brooklyn Dodgers and
pro basketball for the World Championship Minneapolis
Lakers for four years.
When Mr. Schultz completed his successful pro sports
career, he began teaching and coaching (basketball and
baseball) at Mechanic Arts High School until his retirement.

Joseph "Doc" Reardon
Central Student Athlete
1939-1942
A 1942 graduate, Joseph Reardon was a three sport
letter winner in football, hockey, and baseball. An
All-City Quarterback, "Doc" Reardon led one
of the most talented football teams in St. Paul history
to that date to an undefeated City Conference Championship
in 1941. Reardon was one of Central's all-time career
leading hockey scorers, with 39 total points. Joseph
led Central's 1942 hockey team with 19 total points.
Joseph won the Alvin Herrmann Outstanding Student/Athlete
Award in 1942.
Joseph attended St. Thomas University where he played
on the baseball and hockey teams. Following his college
career, "Doc" played several years on amateur
baseball and hockey teams.
Mr. Reardon worked for Sperry- UNIVAC in Roseville as
Manager of Material Control until his retirement.

Jack Rock
Central Student Athlete
1945-1949
A 1949 graduate, Jack Rock was an All-City fullback
whose blinding speed and shifty moves made him the best
offensive talent in the 1948 All City Conference. On
the basketball hardwood, Rock's fearless devices to
the basket gave him an All-City position at forward.
During Central's spring season, Diamond Jack pitched
and was an All-City outfielder in 1948 and 1949. For
his great efforts, Jack received Central's Alvin Herrmann
Award and also the City Conference Outstanding Student/Athlete
Award.
A 1953 Macalester College graduate, Jack participated
in the same three sports and was the football team's
Most Valuable Player in 1951 and 1952. Jack also received
Macalester's Outstanding Athlete of the Year Award in
1953.
Mr. Rock began his teaching and coaching career at Minneapolis
Henry High School in 1954. Some years later he became
Henry's Assistant Principal and then a High School Principal
at six other schools until his retirement in 1984.

Jeanne M. Arth
Central Student Athlete
1942-1952
Although Jeanne Arth, a 1952 graduate,
was never given a chance to earn a varsity C athlete
letter, she did participate in the intramural (GAA)
Girls Athletic Association Program. This was the only
athletic opportunity available to young ladies during
Jeanne's years at Central.
Jeanne Arth's story actually began outside of school
walls. She scaled the heights of the women's tennis
world before either tennis or women in athletics were
fashionable to the masses. Jeanne was rated number one
in the Women's Singles and Doubles Championship from
1950 to 1963. Ms. Arth admits her biggest trophies are
her fond memories of travel, competition and long lasting
friendship. Her most tangible are the two United States
Women's Double championship in 1958 and 1959 and the
Wimbledon Women's Doubles in 1959. Her partner was Darlene
Hard.
Ms. Arth's most noteworthy awards are the 1953 U.S.
Girls Sportsmanship Award and the 1958 St. Paul Lions
Club Outstanding Athlete Award. Ms. Arth has been inducted
into the Minnesota Sports, Minnesota Tennis, and Wilson
International Tennis Hall of Fame.
Ms. Arth received a physical education degree from the
College of St. Catherine and an M.A. in counseling from
the University of St. Thomas. Her career work experience
included teaching, counseling, coaching tennis, and
coordinator of the girl's athletics. She retired in
1993.

Bob Blakley, Sr.
Central Student Athlete
1952-1955
A 1955 graduate, Bob Blakley lettered
in football, basketball, track and field. An All City
running back, Bob led the conference in rushing and
scoring for two years. He also scored the most points
ever in a Twin City Championship football game by an
individual with 27 points. Bob is still a Minnesota
State track record holder with 172 feet. Bob was honored
as the first black Homecoming King in 1954.
Bob attended the University of Minnesota where he played
football and ran track. He played football overseas
with the United States Special Tories, and was named
most valuable player in the USARF/USAF championship
game. Bob went on to play 3 years for the Denver Broncos
and finished his eleven year playing career in the Canadian
Football League.
After retiring from pro football, he received his B.A.
Degree in Behavioral Science from Concordia College.
Bob has been involved in several successful occupations.

Leroy Gardener, Jr
Central Student Athlete
1962-1965
A 1965 graduate, Leroy Gardener was a
three sport letter winner in football, basketball, and
track. Leroy was selected three straight years to the
All City basketball team. In 1965 he was the city conference
scoring champion with 25.0 per game average. As captain
of Central's 1965 state basketball Consolation Championship
team and also to the 1965 WCCO All-State basketball
team. As a result of his great efforts, the St. Paul
Lions Club gave Leroy their 1965 athlete of the year
award.
A historical footnote to Leroy's athletic career: he
was the first black Minnesotan who was born and raised
in Minnesota to receive a full basketball scholarship
to the University of Minnesota.

Linda Marie Roberts
Central Student Athlete
1974-1977
A 1977 graduate, Linda Roberts played
three years on Central's varsity girls' basketball team
into a dominant state basketball power during the mid-seventies.
This team also wrote a new chapter in the Central High
record book by becoming the first Girls' State Basketball
Champions in 1976. Linda's All-Conference and All-State
performances were strong enough to get her team back
to the 1977 tournament.
Linda received a scholarship to the University of Minnesota
and began her four year campaign to lift a mediocre
Gopher team to prominence in the Big Ten Conference.
During her career, Linda set eleven Minnesota records
which is also a record for any one athlete who has played
for the Maroon and Gold. Linda was a two time wade trophy
nominee and a three-time Most Valuable player award
recipient.
Linda graduated from the University of Minnesota in
1982 with a bachelor of arts degree in English. Ms.
Roberts is currently employed at the University of Minnesota
in the Women's Athletic Department as an Administrative
Assistant/Program Coordinator.

Jean Tierney-Holt
Central Student Athlete
1976-1979
A 1979 graduate, Jean Tierney-Holt lettered
in volleyball, basketball, and softball. She was one
of the team leaders on Central's 1978 Girls' Basketball
team that finished third in the state tournament and
returned in 1979 to win the State Girls Basketball Championship.
Jean received the Miss Minnesota Basketball Award in
1979.
Jean accepted a softball scholarship to Creighton University
and was a three time NCAA College World Series player;
a two time All American at second base and an Academic
All American. Jean was the first female athlete to be
inducted into Creighton Hall of Fame in 1990.
Currently Mrs. Holt is a full time mother and part time
operating room nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Bloomington,
Illinois.

Don Simensen
Central Student Athlete
1941-1944
A 1944 graduate, Don Simensen lettered
in football, hockey, and baseball. He attended the University
of St. Thomas where he played on the football and hockey
teams. Don was in the St. Thomas 1948 championship football
team that played in the "Cigar Bowl" in Tampa, Florida,
for the small college football title.
Don was signed by the Los Angeles Rams of the NFL in
1950 and played three years as offensive tackle. He
returned to St. Thomas in 1951 to complete his physical
education degree. Don started his teaching and coaching
career at Marmion Academy in Aurora, Illinois. He had
completed his twenty-six year career in St. Paul at
Washington and Como Park High School.
Mr. Simensen had been inducted to the University of
St. Thomas' and Mancini's Restaurant Athletics Hall
of Fame. He died in 1994.

George Roscoe Sr.
Central Teacher/Coach/Athletic Director
1946-1958
Mr. Roscoe started at Central in 1946,
as a football and baseball coach. His football teams
won two St. Paul City Championships. He also served
as Central's Athletic Director for four years.
A Minneapolis Central High School and University of
Minnesota graduate, he lettered in football, basketball
and baseball. He played on two National Championship
teams while at the University of Minnesota. Mr. Roscoe
begun his teaching and coaching career in Alexandria,
MN. He joined the Navy in 1942, serving as an instructor
during World War II.
Mr. Rosoe was appointed District 625 Supervisor of Athletics
in 1958 and held that position for fifteen years until
he retired.

Wilbur Rodgers
Central Student/Athlete
1943-1946
A 1946 graduate , Wilbur Rodgers lettered
in football, basketball and was an all-city baseball
player.
Wilbur attended the University of Minnesota where he
majored in economics and played on the baseball team.
He joined the Air Force, serving as a pilot during the
Korean War. Following his six year military service,
he pursued a brief two year semi-pro baseball career.
Mr. Rodgers went to work for the North Central Life
Insurance Company in the marketing department for nineteen
years. He also worked for "I.T.T." for eight years.
He has served in the executive board of the C Club
for several years.

William E. (Bill) Martin
Central Teacher and Coach
1958-1983
Mr. Martin started at Central in 1958
as a Social Studies teacher and coached football, wrestling,
track and field. During his coaching career at Central,
his football teams won four and his track and field
teams won six St. Paul City Conference Championships.
Mr. Martin also served as Central's Athletic Director
for nine years.
A 1939 Elmore High School graduate, he lettered in football,
basketball, track and was selected the 1939 District
5 Best Sportsman for basketball. He earned a Bachelor
of Arts Degree from Mankato State University and lettered
in football and basketball. Mr. Martin spent the next
four years in the Army Air Force. He received three
Air Force medals for his twenty missions of service.
In 1964 he was inducted into Mankato State's Athletic
Hall of Fame. Mr. Martin finished his thirty-seven year
teaching career at Central High School in 1983.

Deb Krengel
Central Student Athlete
1973-1976
A 1976 graduate, Deb lettered three times each in
volleyball, basketball, track and field at Central.
In basketball she earned All Conference and All State
honors and was chosen to the WCCO Radio All-Star team.
As a member of Central's first Minnesota State High
School Girls AA Basketball 1976 Championship team, Deb
led her team in scoring with 253 points for the season.
During the 1976 track and field season, she was the
Region 3AA Discus Champion and went on to participate
in the Minnesota State Track Meet. Central's first Emma
Ryan Athletic and Academic award was given to Deb in
1976.
Deb went to the College of St. Catherine, where she
was a member of three more estate championship teams
(two volleyball and one basketball). She was also a
two time State Javelin Champion and still holds her
school record with a throw of 143 ft. During her junior
and senior years Deb earned a B.A. degree in Physical
Education.
After college Ms. Krengel coached volleyball, basketball,
track and field at both high school and college levels.
Her highlight in coaching was to go to the Minnesota
State High School tournament as the assistant coach
for the 1985 White Bear Lake Girls Basketball team.
In 1985 Ms. Krengel went back to school and received
her accounting certification. She is currently employed
at the Hazelden Foundation in the Finance Division.

Von Sheppard
Central Student Athlete
1980-1983
A 1983 graduate, Von was an All-Conference,
All-State, high school All-American running back in
football who rushed for over 3,000 career yards. In
track and field, Von was recognized as the number one
in the nation for the long jump event and he set a Minnesota
high school record of 24.9 ft. In addition he broke
the 100 meter and 200 meter sprint records in the St.
Paul Conference. He was also an All-Conference basketball
point guard - averaging 20 points a game.
Von received over 100 scholarship offers to major universities
in the country, then chose a full scholarship for football
to the University of Nebraska. During his sophomore
year, Von led the Big Eight Conference in yards per
catch, and was chosen honorable mention in All-American.
The same year Von set the University of Nebraska Long
Jump record - 25.6ft; placed 9th in the country and
ranked 30th in the world.
Von received a free agent tryout with the Minnesota
Vikings in 1988 but was released. He played for two
years in England, rushing for over 3200 yards and played
in the 1989 Championship game scoring 5 touchdowns and
rushed for 173 yards. He was voted M.V.P. for the game
and Conference Player of the Year.
Mr. Sheppard earned a Masters Degree from the University
of St. Thomas in Administrations and presently an Assistant
Principal at Eagan High School.

Dave West
Central Student Athlete
1951-1954
A 1954 graduate, Dave was an All-City
offensive center/defensive linebacker and a member of
the 1953 City Conference Championship football team.
During the basketball season, Dave was a two year All-City
Conference Championship team. Dave also played shortstop
for the Central baseball team. Dave finished a memorable
senior year of athletics when he received the 1954 Alvin
Herrmann Outstanding Student/Athlete Award. To top off
his great athletic honors, Dave won a National High
School Essay Contest which awarded him a $1,000 scholarship
plus a free trip to New York to accept the award.
After playing one year of freshman ball at the University
of Minnesota, Dave set his goal on graduating with a
Business Degree in 1958. Mr. West started his career
working for the 3M company in the Retail Tapes Department.
In 1965 Mr. West started his own company and is still
the head of West Premium Corporation, which specializes
in providing marketing incentives to banks.

RITA BURCH
Central Student-Athlete
1975-1978
A 1978 graduate, Rita lettered in basketball,
cheerleading, track & field at Central. A three-year
starter for the girls basketball team, Rita played
in three MN State basketball tournaments (State Champions
in 1976). She was also a member of Central's 1977
Region 3, 880 Relay Championship Track Team. Rita
received some noteworthy high school awards and honors:
Central's Class of 1958 Alumni Scholarship, the St.
Paul Urban League Scholarship, the 1978 David Winfield
Outstanding Student/Athlete Scholarship Award and
the Marquette University Athletic/Academic Scholarship.
In 1983, Rita received a Bachelor of Arts Degree
in Journalism from Marquette University. She returned
to St. Paul and was the co-founder of the Summit-University
Girls Athletic Association. Miss Burch's career work
experience includes the following: Associate Editor/Producer,
Career Counselor, Job Coach and a Univ. of MN Academic
professional staff member. She is currently employed
by the City of Saint Paul as the Executive Assistant
to Chief William K. Finney and is also a United Way
of St. Paul Citizen Review Volunteer.

WARDELL WARREN
Central Student-Athlete
1971-1974
A 1974 graduate, Wardell lettered in
football and wrestling at Central. He was a three
time St. Paul Conference Wrestling Champion; a two-time
District Champion and was chosen team's M.V.P. in
1973. Wardell received a full scholarship for wrestling
to Concordia College in St. Paul. He was a four-time
Conference Champion and a two-time National Wrestling
Champion in 1976 & 1978. He graduated with a B.A.
Degree in Social Science & History.
He currently works at Humboldt H.S. as an Attendance
Liaison and is a 9th grade Football Coach/Asst. Track
Coach. He has also coached wrestling the last 21 years
at St. Paul Central H.S.

JOHN T. (JACK) MCCALLUM
Central Teacher, Coach & Athletic Director
Mr. McCallum started at St. Paul Central
in 1922 as a Math/Science teacher& football/track
coach. He coached two championship football teams
in 1926& 1927 before becoming Central's Athletic
Director in 1928 and he held that position for 29
years.
A 1912 Baldwin Academy H.S. graduate (in St. Cloud,
MN), he was a student quarterback when football was
played without helmets and pads. Jack graduated from
Macalester College in 1916 with a Bachelor of Arts
Degree in Math and Science. He earned eight varsity
letters in football, basketball and baseball. Jack
was selected the 1914 Tri-State College Quarterback
(the best in North Dakota, South Dakota & Minnesota).
He spent the next few years in the Army Air Corps
during World War I.
Mr. McCallum started his coaching career at Macalester
College as a Head Football Coach/Athletic Director
in 1918 and was inducted into their Athletic Hall
of Fame in 1980. He finished his 36 years of educational
service in 1958. Mr. McCallum died in 1985, at the
age of 92.

ALFRED "BUD" ERICKSEN
Central Student-Athlete
1957-1960
A 1960 graduate, Bud lettered in swimming
and golf at Central. He earned city, region and state
honors in both sports. Bud also served as team captain
of both sports and received the 1960 Alvin Herrmann
Outstanding Student/Athlete Award.
At the University of Minnesota, Bud was an All-American
swimmer and a NCAA Finalist for three years. He was
a NCAA Champion in 1963 and set two National Swim
records. A 1964 graduate with a Civil Engineering
Degree, he returned to coach the University of Minnesota
swim team for 6 years after coaching age group swimmers
for 13 years. He has coached swimmers to All-American
and Olympic teams.
Mr. Ericksen started his own Structural Engineering
Company in 1985 and has received numerous national
design awards for his work. He is also the engineer
of record for the 1980 Central High School renovation
project.

ROBERT LEWIS
Central Student-Athlete
1929-1932
A 1932 graduate, Bob Lewis lettered
in football, basketball, and track. In his first year
as a Minuteman, he started at halfback for Coach Franklyn
Blume's City Champs. A true triple-threat player and
an exciting open-field runner, Bob scored 4 touchdowns
in one game as a freshman. As a senior, he was named
to the All-City Team football team. Bob started at
guard for Central's City Championship basketball team
and helped take the squad to the State Tournament.
In the All-City Track Meet, Bob scored in 4 events.
He took 2nd in the 100-yard dash at the State H.S.
Track Meet. Most of his times and distances would
still win high school meets today.
At the University of Minnesota, Bob was a halfback
on Bernie Bierman's 1934 and 1935 National Championship
Teams. At only 150 pounds, he was the lightest but
fastest man on the squad. While at the University
of Minnesota, Bob played intramurals and served as
President of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
After graduation, he pursued a successful career
with Look and Family Circle magazines until his retirement
in 1976. A fine golfer, he has two holes-in-one to
his credit.

WILLIAM "BILLY
P" PETERSON
Central Student-Athlete
1953-1957
Billy P lettered 8 times. Three in
baseball, three in hockey, and twice in football.
He was All-Conference in baseball and hockey and Honorable
Mention in football. Billy still holds the City Conference
record for field goal distance at 43 yards. After
graduation he spent three years in
the Marine Corps. There he played inter-service baseball
and basketball. Upon discharge from the Marine Corps.
he attended the University of Minnesota (playing two
years of baseball) and graduating in Recreational
Leadership. In 1961 he began working for the Parks
and Recreational
Department of the City of St. Paul and in 1997 retired
after 36 years of service.
Billy was the Director of Oxford Playground for fifteen
years and coached numerous championships in baseball,
basketball and football and one championship in hockey
(the only African-American hockey team in the United
States). He also coached 3 American Legion Baseball
State Championships with Cretin H.S. Two former players
were Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Dave Winfield
(also a Central Hall Famer) and soon t be a Hall of
Famer Paul Molitor. Billy has been a member of the
National Umpire Staff for the Amateur Softball Association
for twenty years. He has umpired in 2 World Tournaments,
5 National Tournaments and 6 NCAA College World Series.
He has conducted umpire schools in every state, in
5 countries in Europe and also Aruba, Holland and
Ireland. He also has Ben the Umpire-in-Chief for 54
National Tournaments and 3 International Special Olympics.
More recent, Billy can be found every day in the summer
as a volunteer in the Midway Little League Baseball
program at Dunning Fields working with players, coaches
and umpires.

TOM BARNES
Central Student-Athlete
1958-1961
A 1961 graduate, Tom Barnes was a three
sport letter winner in Football, Basketball and Track.
Tom quarterbacked the Minuteman to a City Conference
Football championship and he also won the conference
scoring title the same season, 1960. In the spring
of 1961, Tom set a conference shot-put record, 55'8.5",
which stood for over 25 years.
Tom, a University of Minnesota graduate, was captain
of the Gopher Track team and was the Big Ten indoor
and outdoor shot-put Champion in 1965. After college,
Tom began officiating football. He worked in the Big
Ten Conference from 1982-1985. He started officiating
in The National Football League in 1986 and is still
active. He has worked five Conference Championship
games and was the line judge in Super Bowl XXVIII.
Since 1973, Tom has owned and operated a Manufactures
Rep Agency in the Sporting Goods Industry.

GWENDOLYN YVONNE CROWE-PETERSON
Central Student-Athlete
1973-1976
A 1976 graduate, Gwen is one of 6 siblings to graduate
from Central. She was Captain in three sports, lettering
twice in basketball, twice in volleyball and three
times in cheerleading and was a member of Central's
1976 State Girl's Basketball Championship team. Gwen
was Vice President of the Student Council and received
a collegiate academic scholarship from the St. Paul
Urban League. A graduate of Winona State University
in Business Administration, Gwen was elected in Who's
Who Among Students and also selected to the National
Register of Outstanding Graduates in 1981. Gwen coached
Central's Varsity Cheerleaders in 1990-1992. As founder
of Summit University Girl's Athletic Association,
she provided opportunities for girl's in competitive
sports in basketball, volleyball and softball. In
1996 she was awarded the MLK Volunteer of the Year
Award and in 1997 was the recipient of the National
Girls and Women in Sports Day in Minnesota
Award.
Gwen umpired for the Amateur Softball Association
from 1989-1999, with 3
National Tournaments, 3 International Special Olympics
World Games and an
induction into the National Indicator Fraternity in
1999. Gwen is employed
by the St. Paul Division of Parks and Recreation as
a Diversity Coordinator
and is completing her Masters Degree in Library Information
Science from
the College of St. Catherine.

FLOYD SMALLER
Central Teacher & Coach
1976-2000
Mr. Smaller started at St. Paul Central
H.S. in 1976 as a Physical Ed./Health Teacher and
has coached football, basketball, track and field.
During his coaching career at Central, Coach Smaller's
football teams have won over 100 games and two City
Conference Championships. His girls and boys track
teams have won 21 Conference and 4 State Championships.
For all of his efforts he was named several times
"Coach of the Year" in Football and Track
by the St. Paul City Conference Coaches. In 1995,
Coach Smaller was inducted into the Minnesota State
H.S. Coaches Hall of Fame. A 1955 Mechanic Arts graduate,
Mr. Smaller was a three-sport All City
athlete. He played in Coach Frank O'Rourke's backfield
for two years and led his team in scoring in his senior
year (the Trainers would finish second in the conference
to Central both years). His basketball teams would
tie Central for the City title in his junior year
and finish the conference season undefeated in his
senior year (the first time since 1930 for M.A.) His
three year prep track career saw him win City and
State medals in the discus and long jump.
Upon graduation from the University of Arkansas-Pine
Bluff where he achieved All Conference honors for
football and track, Mr. Smaller received two offers
to play professional football from the New York Giants
and the Houston Oilers. But he also had several teaching
and coaching jobs
offered, too. After much thought, he started his teaching
and coaching career at Chicot H.S. in Dermott, Arkansas.
Coach Smaller returned to St. Paul in 1969, working
two years at Wilson Jr. H.S. before accepting a teaching
and coaching position at Mechanic Arts. Mr. Smaller
has matched
his education career with being a great community
organizer in both the St. Paul and Minneapolis communities.
After numerous honors Coach Smaller has received
during his 35 years of teaching and coaching, the
biggest "thank you" comes from the many
student athletes he has personally encouraged to attend
college on full or partial scholarships.

TOMMY BOLDT
Central Student-Athlete
1961-1964
A 1964 graduate, Tom Boldt was a three-sport athlete
for the Minuteman. He was a standout football running
back. leading Central in conference scoring his senior
year. A big highlight for that season: Tom opened
the second half of the Murray game with an 85 yard
kick-off return to break open a close game. On the
baseball diamond, he pitched three no-hitters for
Central during the 1963 and 1964 seasons. He was named
to the All-City and the 1964 Minnesota All-State Baseball
Teams. Tom also played on the varsity hockey team.
In 1963 he received Central's Student Athlete Merit
Award.
Tommy graduated from Mankato State College, receiving
his B.A. in Recreation Administration and Sociology.
For the past 14 years, he has been employed in the
installation of fire protection systems.

CLYDE THOMAS
Central Student-Athlete
1966-1969
A 1969 graduate, Clyde was a three sport All-City
Conference athlete at Central. On the football field,
he was a flashy halfback known for his long touchdown
runs, which led his team to two conference titles. In
his senior year the All-City back would have quite a
month in October. He
would score five touchdowns in one game against Murray.
Later that month he would catch a Bob Little's pass
and run for an 80-yard touchdown against Humboldt. A
week later, in the annual rivalry game with Mechanic
Arts, the 1968 conference scoring champion would romp
85 yards from scrimmage for a TD. Clyde played two years
of varsity hoops. As a senior his Minutemen
would win the conference title and would reach the Region
finals only to lose to Alexander Ramsey. Clyde was also
a member of three varsity track teams that won conference
titles twice. As a sophomore he would qualify for the
state, placing fifth in the high jump. He was city and
state champ in the long jump as a junior. During his
senior year he was city champ in the high jump and would
set a record that would not be broken for fifteen years
in the long jump (23'2"). He would repeat as state
long jump champ and finish second in the state high
jump.
Clyde attended Tuskegee Institute in Alabama
on a football scholarship. He led his football conference
as a freshman in average yards per carry (6.5 yards).
Mr. Thomas was employed by the St. Paul Fire Department
for more than ten years. For the past four years he's
been employed by Northwest Airlines in technical operations.

BOB BLAKELY, JR
Central Student-Athlete
1975-1978
A 1978 graduate, Bob was a three sport
All-City Conf. athlete at Central. On the football field,
he was a big, bruising running back who would lead the
Minuteman in scoring for two years (finishing in the
top five in conference scoring). Some highlights during
his senior year: he would catch a first quarter touchdown
pass, then lead a late fourth quarter rally with a another
touchdown run as Central beat Humboldt 19-12. Later
that season he would set a Blakley family team record
with a 94-yard run for a score. He would play two years
of varsity basketball, making the All-City team as a
senior. Bob would spend three spring sports seasons
on the track team, leading Central to individual awards
each year. As a junior he won the city and regional
with firsts in the 100 and 220 yard dashes. He went
on to capture the state title in the 100 and second
in the 220. As a senior, he would tie a city meet record
with a 9.8 time in the 100 and would also win the 220
and be part of the 440 relay team. He completed his
season being a state champ in the 220 dash. For his
great efforts, Bob received Central's Alvin Herrman
Outstanding Student/Athlete Award. Bob attended North
Dakota State University where he excelled in football
and track. This talented son of Central's great Bob
Blakely, Sr. from the mid 1950's would star in the same
sports as his father at Central some twenty years later.
Bob Jr. made believers out of all the St. Paul City
Conference sports fans in proving that lightening can
strike twice. He is presently living in Universal City,
Texas.

DANA "BUMPER" WATTS
Central Student-Athlete
1976-1979
A 1979 graduate, Dana helped bring state championships
to Central in two sports she played. As one of Coach
Lou Kanavati's guards, her teams posted an impressive
38-6 conference record during her three years of varsity
play. As a sophomore, her Central team won the City
Conference and the Regional Basketball titles, then
finished the season with a trip to the State Tournament
winning the Consolation Trophy. As a junior, Central
once again qualified for the AA State Basketball Tournament,
improving by two places from the previous year in
team results, finishing third. Her senior year, Dana
led her team in conference scoring and again qualified
her state. Central would once again improve by two
places; her team finished on top by capturing the
State Championship, defeating Northfield 55-46. Dana
would once again be named to the All-City and All-State
squads. Her track career saw her win both individual
and team championships. In the state meet as a sophomore,
she would finish sixth in the 400 meters and be part
of the State Champions 4X100 meter relay. The following
year she would win the state 400 meter run, finish
second in the 200 meters and, with Delores Hawkins,
Georgia Ulmer and Kim watts, set a state record in
the 4X100 meter relays. The record still stands today!
Dana attended Rhema Bible Training Center where she
participated in the youth ministry outreach program.
She also assisted with boys and girls basketball camps.
Currently, Mr. Watts is an employee of Abbot Northwestern
Hospital.

BILL BEVAN
Central Student-Athlete
1928-1931
A 1931 graduate, Bill would letter
in baseball as a sophomore and junior. His team would
tie with Mechanic Arts for the conference crown each
year. When Bill was a senior, baseball was dropped
as a competitive sport due to the depression. Bill
also played both offense and defense for the Central
football team. Bill was known as a tough competitor,
who refused to wear a helmet! Central would win the
City Conference in football when Bill was a junior
and tie with Mechanic Arts for the title as a senior.
Bill would lead the conference in scoring as a senior,
for scoring rushing and receiving touchdowns. In his
last game played, he would score Central's lone touchdown
and extra point as the Minutemen would the Mechanic
Arts 7-7. He was named twice to the All-City football
team.
Bill attended the University of Minnesota and was
selected to the All Big-Ten Football Team. After college
he moved out of the state of Minnesota and became
a firefighter.

LISA LISSIMORE
Central Student-Athlete
1975-1978
A 1978 graduate, Lisa Lissimore played
in three MN State basketball tournaments (State Champions
in 1976). She was selected twice to the Minnesota
All-State basketball team. Lisa received a basketball
scholarship to Grand View College in Iowa and was
captain of the women's
basketball team for two years. Following her college
career, Lisa returned home and became part of the
St. Thomas Univ. women's basketball coaching staff
for four years. She even coached Central's 9th grade
girls' basketball team in 1983.
Ms. Lissimore's most noteworthy awards & honors
are: the 1978 Central H.S. Emma Ryan Athletic and
Academic Award; finalist for the 1983 David Winfield
Student Athlete Award; named "Most Valuable Player"
in 1983 by the MN Women's Amateur Basketball Conference;
and she was profiled in "Heroes: Growing up Strong
and Female," a documentary produced in 1983 by
KARE-11
TV. Ms. Lissimore is currently an Associate Director
of the MN State H.S. League with administrative responsibilities
for the softball, swimming and diving, cross country
running and Nordic skiing tournaments. Lisa is also
known for outstanding community service.

STACY ROBINSON
Central Student-Athlete
1977-1980
A 1980 graduate, Stacy Robinson was a three sport
letter winner in football, basketball and track. Stacy
received numerous awards throughout his high school
career including: All-Conference & All-State honors
in football, two consecutive years on the All-Conference
basketball team, and finished his career at Central
by capturing State titles in the 100 & 200 meter
dashes at the State H.S. Track Meet.
Stacy went on to play wide receiver for North Dakota
State University where he was named to All-Conference
and All-American teams. He was also very successful
on the track team, winning five conference sprint
titles. Stacy graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Business Administration. He played in the annual
Senior Bowl and was the All-Star game's Most Valuable
Player.
Stacy was the 46th player chosen in the NFL's annual
draft by the New York Giants. He became a starter
during his second season with the Giants and went
on to secure numerous awards as a professional. His
ultimate accomplishment came when the Giants won their
first Super Bowl in 1987,
then repeated this spectacular feat in 1991. Mr. Robinson
ended his football career on top and also completed
his Master's Degree in Business before the crowd noise
subsided. Mr. Robinson is currently the Director of
Multicultural Student Services at the Minneapolis
Community College.

DELENE VERNELL THOMAS-SANDERS
Central Student-Athlete
1975-1978
Delene was a three year letter winner in volleyball,
basketball, track and cheerleading. She was captain
of the cheerleading squad for three years and volleyball
team for one year. As a member of Central's 1977 &
1978 State Track Championship teams, her individual
accomplishments included: City Conference first place
finishes in the 100 meter hurdles & long jump
events, and two second place finishes in both events
at the 1978 Minn. State Track Meet, plus a member
of the 1978 state record 4X100 meter relay team.
Delene attended Golden Valley Lutheran Junior College
for two years where she was an All American hurdler
and long jumper Delene was also a member of the 4X100
& 4X200 meter relay teams. She transferred to
Utah State University and was named to the Athlete's
International team.
Mrs. Sanders is currently employed with Genesis II
for Women Inc. as a Parent Educator and since 1984
she has been an assistant track & field coach
at Central. In 1992 Delene was selected as the City
Conference Girls Track Coach of the year.

JAKE ERLICH
1940-1943
A 1943 graduate, Jake
lettered in hockey as a defenseman and played on the
baseball team as an infielder. He also served as student
manager for Central's football team. In addition,
Jake worked as the stadium scoreboard operator for
three years. Following graduation he played amateur
baseball and hockey. Jake later coached a senior men's
city hockey team.
Jake Joined the U.S. army medical corps
during WWII and served 20 months in England. After
the war, he was active in Jewish war veterans, serving
as a quartermaster for Post 354. Jake had a productive
28 year career selling home improvement products (roofing,
siding, doors, and windows), but he always found time
to umpire high school, amateur and semi-pro baseball.
Jake also refereed amateur hockey for 12 years and
was a member of the "old timers" Hockey
Association and held the position of secretary.
Jake has served the "C" Club
for nearly fifty years in a variety of capacities,
including Club President, Banquet Chairman and Club
Historian.

LAURA GRAHEK TREICHEL
CLASS OF 1981
A 1981 graduate, Laura Treichel played three years
on the central varsity girls’ basketball team, and tree
years on the volleyball and softball teams Laura was
a member of the 1979 Girls’ Basketball State Championship
Team. As a senior she was voted Student Athlete of the
Year by her peers and received the Salute to Youth Award
from the St. Paul Chapter of the American Association
of University Women.
Laura continued her athletic career at Inver Hills Community
College playing volleyball basketball, and softball.
She was all conference in volleyball and basketball
her sophomore year she then entered the University of
Wisconsin-River Falls where she played basketball. Laura
graduated cum laude from UW-RF in 1989 with a B.S. in
Physical Education.
From 1986-1992 Laura returned to Central to coach 9th
grade and Jr. Varsity volleyball. She also coached at
Monroe and Expo Middle Schools and received the Coach
of the Year Award in 1990. Laura spent several years
as an umpire for the St. Paul Municipal Athletic Department
and was selected to be an umpire fore the Special Olympics
held in the Twin Cities.
Gary Ales
Class of 1958
Gary lettered in football and baseball.
He played on the 1957 Football Conference Champion
team and was All City, leading rusher, passer and
scorer. All State Recognition and the WCCO All State
team. A baseball outfielder and pitcher, with most

King. At the University of St. Thomas, FB, a four
year starter and letter winner. A handball state champion,
squash racquets state champion, speed skating city
champion. Gary coached a semi-pro football team, the
cardinals for five years and five championships and
was an assistant coach for the university of St. Thomas
for 4 years.
Gary taught Psychology at Johnson HS for 23 years
and coached football, a championship gymnastics team
and boys and girls track. As a councilor for 14 years
at Humbolt Jr/Sr High he coached boys and girls soccer,
boys tennis and boys and girls cross country. As a
master teacher at the minnesota institute for talented
youth teaching psychology he took his students on
canoeing and backpacking trips to the boundary waters
canoe area.
He was selected Teacher of the year, St. Paul Rotary,
was a KARE 11 “Eleven Who Care” Award
winner for leadership and community service and received
the Thomas Jefferson Award, a national leadership
and service award and voted coach of the year, St.
Paul coaches.
He was founder and advisor of the Friendship club
teaching leadership, learning and service to the community.
The Friendship club serves the mental challenged,
mentally ill, senior citizens, poor and disadvantaged
and cleaned parks, rivers, schools and neighborhoods.
Commended by three governors and four mayors for leadership
and service to the community.
Married to Jean Allen, a Central graduate. Father
of four children, Bridget (Pete), Christopher (Diane),
Sheila (Bill), and Kevin. Grandchildren, Kip (Peter)
and Sigrid Ann.

Melvin Thomas Henderson
Central Student-Athlete
Class of 1962
A 1962 graduate, Melvin Henderson lettered in football
and track. Melvin, an All-City running back, led his
team in rushing for two years. As a Varsity track
sprinter, Melvin was a conference record holder in
the 440,880 and a member of the spring medley relay
team. He received All State Honors and was named a
High School All American
Melvin accepted a full Athletic Scholarship to the
University of Minnesota where he played on the football
and track team.
Mr. Henderson has been a Minnesota State University
Professor for 25 years Human Service Dept, Chair person
for 17 years a licensed for independent social worker/
social services consultant for 18 years and has received
numerous teaching awards, "C" Club person
in 1992.

Teresa Tierney
Mauer
Central Student/Athlete
Class of 1976
A 1976 graduate, Teresa
Tierney was a three year lettered winner in volleyball,
basketball, and track. she was a Co-Captain of centra's
first MINN. State H.S Girls basketball championship
team in 1976. Teresa recieved the "C" Club oustanding
student/Athlete award three straight years.
Teresa graduated from St. Catherine college with a
B.A degree in Physical Education and coaching certification.
She was a member of St. Catherine's 1977 and 1978 volleyball
and the 1978 basketball championship team. Teresa is
currently office manager of St. Patricks guild in St.Paul.
She also enjoys coaching basketball, volleyball, and
baseball.

Bob Glassman
Central Student-Athlete
Class of 1961
A 1961 graduate, Bob earn nine letters-
three in football as a lineman; as a defensemen in
hockey, two in track, where he was a shot putter,
and one as a pitcher in baseball. He received All
City Conference Honor in football and hockey. He also
served as a team captain of both sports. Central was
City Conference champs in football and 2nd place in
hockey Bob's Senior year.
Bob continued his Athletic career in college and
was a conference football player in addition two lettering
four times. he also lettered three times in hockey.
Bob again was selected team captain of both sports.
Bob graduated from Bemidji State University with the
B.S. and Masters degree in health and Physical ED,
and was inducted into Bemidji State University Athletic
Hall of Fame in 1996.
Bob began his teaching career in 1965, and was a
Varsity Assistant coach in football, wrestling and
track before a head wrestling coach. He started a
High School Hockey program in Jamesville, Wisconsin
and Wilmar, Minnesota and serving as a head coach
at both school. The last 15 years of Bob's career
he was Wilmar Athletic director and served as a representative
on numerous committee. He was selected region AA Athletic
Director of the year for 1994.

James Hill Jr.
Central Student-Athlete
Class of 1967
A 1967 graduate, James Hill lettered
in basketball and track. He earned All-City and All
States Honor as well as named to the All-State 1967
tournament team.
He average twenty-two points per game his Senior
year. Also in 1967, James average thirty-one points
per game in the Minnesota High School basketball tournament.
He also holds the Minnesota State High School Basketball
record for most Free Throws attempted.
James played for Texas Southern University in Houston,
Texas.
After College, he played for the Pillsbury Kings
in the National Amateur Basketball Association Basketball
Tourney. The Pillsbury Kings Were Tourney Champions
in 1974 and runner-up in 1975 and appears in the September
1975 issues of the Ebony magazine.
