Course Expectations and Grades:
Students are expected to complete reading and writing assignmentsoutside of class. Students are also expected to participate in largeand small group discussions, reading journals, group and individualpresentations, formal and informal writing assignments, and peerediting. Students are expected to teach or present to the classspecific selections from literary works.
Students need to be in class daily and turn in class assignments ontime at the beginning of the hour on the due date. Students areresponsible for the work that they miss when they are absent. It is upto each student to find out what was missed by asking Ms. Peifer. Please ask Ms. Peifer for any missed handouts.
Papers need to be completed in the MLA Handbook style (see figure 1 and2). Computer processed papers are mandatory except for in classassignments. Public libraries have computers and typewriters for publicuse. All other assignments need to be written legibly or are impossibleto grade.
Grades are based on a combination of written work and classparticipation. This class is considered an advanced level ofliterature, and students will receive weighted honor points for theirgrades. Therefore, students will be expected to work at an acceleratedlevel, manage their time independently, complete many assignmentsoutside of class, and take personal responsibility for the quality oftheir work. Although we will continue to work on writing skills, thisclass is not designed as a remedial writing class. Students should befamiliar with and use the standard mechanics of formal written English.
