English 10 Pre-IB is a survey course, designed to introduce students to a broad variety of works from traditional British classics to literature of all genres from all over the world.  It provides a good content and writing base for the more intensive literature studies in 11th and 12th grade IB classes. Students read mythology, poetry, essays, non-fiction, short stories, plays, and a novel.    Writing activities accompany all units of study.  These include at least two formal papers, an independent novel study, and several short comparative analyses.  Students will also keep a literary response journal in which they will take notes, make personal responses to literature studies, and write informal short essays.  Creative projects and oral presentations are also included.    Although this is a survey course and we will be reading only excerpts from many classic texts, we will be reading six texts in their entirety.  You are not required to buy the books, but if you want to start building your own collection of texts, the editions we will be using in the course are listed below.  Alighieri, Dante.  The Inferno.
